In 1999, Vick Wilkins decided to add a decorative touch
to his booth during cook off competitions by creating a few torches
from small cast iron pigs. Visitors to his booth loved the torches
and began calling them 'flaming pigs'. In the beginning of 2000,
Vick and his wife decided to create a new team for the competitions.
Eventually, they settled on the name "The Flaming Pig".
The first competition the team entered was Cultural Fest 2000, where
Flaming Pig placed 1st in the cook off competition. At the State
Cook Off, which was the last competition of the year, Flaming Pig
took 3rd place. This year Cultural Fest 2001 was the first competition
of the year. Once again, Flaming Pig won 1st place in the cook off.
Because of The Flaming Pig's success in competitions, it only seemed
appropriate to lend the name to the sauce used in the cook offs.
After all, the secret's in the sauce.
